The fleur-de-lis represents the units two separate European campaigns in France during World War I and World War II. The lozenges simulate embattled islands and refer to the three island groups, Philippine, Aleutian and Bismarck Archipelago, for the organizations Pacific campaigns also during World War II. The crossed bolo knives denote the Southern and Northern Philippines, where the Battalion received the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, represented by the colors blue, white and red.
